Technical Seminar – Technical Characteristics and Operational Management of Medium-Low Speed Maglev Transit
Introduction
On 5 Sep 2025, the China Hong Kong Railway Institution (CHKRI) successfully organized a joint seminar titled “Technical Characteristics and Operational Management of Medium-Low Speed Maglev Transit “. CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd. (hereinafter referred to as “CRRC Changchun”) was established in 1954. As a leading enterprise under CRRC Group (a Global 500 company), it is China’s foremost manufacturer of high-speed EMUs, railway locomotives, and urban rail transit vehicles. Currently, in the urban rail transit sector, it has achieved full product coverage across all urban rail vehicle categories. The medium-low speed maglev transit system, as a new rail transit mode, demonstrates broad application prospects in urban transportation, owing to its significant advantages including strong climbing capability, small turning radius, flexible route alignment, low construction costs, and environmental friendliness.
China Railway Siyuan Survey and Design Group Co., Ltd. (CRSSD) was founded in 1953 in Wuhan, Hubei Province. Also a leading enterprise under China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC, a Global 500 company), it is China’s preeminent institution for railway and urban rail transit survey and design. CRSSD implemented China’s first medium-low speed maglev line, the Changsha Maglev Express Line, through an Engineering-Procurement-Construction (EPC) model, and subsequently established Guangdong’s inaugural medium-low speed maglev line, the Qingyuan Maglev Tourist Line, using an “Investment + EPC + Operation Management” approach.
This seminar will cover the classification and technical characteristics of maglev transportation, CRRC Changchun’s maglev and medium-low capacity products, and technical solutions for medium-low speed maglev vehicles. It will also introduce the design, construction, and operation of both the Changsha and Qingyuan maglev systems, along with the role mediumlow speed maglev can play in integrated urban public transportation systems.
We are honored to have Mr. Yu Qingsong, the Deputy Chief Engineer of CRRC Changchun Railway Vehicles Co., Ltd. and the Director of the Maglev Research Institute, as our speaker. He is a senior engineer, a chief technical expert at CRRC, an expert on the Technical Equipment Committee of the China Association of Metros, and a member of the Maglev Technology and Vibration Control Professional Committee of the Chinese Society for Vibration Engineering. He has long been engaged in the research and development of rail transit and maglev vehicle equipment.
We are also honored to have Mr. Zhou Fei, the Deputy General Manager of China Railway Siyuan Maglev and the Chairman of Qingyuan Maglev Transportation Co., Ltd., as our speaker. He is a senior engineer with extensive experience in the design and construction management of rail transit projects, including highspeed railways, conventional railways, and urban rail transit. He was involved in the design and construction management of China’s first medium-low-speed maglev line in Changsha and led the entire process of design, construction, and operation management for the Qingyuan Maglev project.
