Technical Visit – Station Rail Voyage
Introduction
Wherever your destination may be, the railway is here with you, station after station, side by side.
The railway is more than a mere mode of transportation. It has emerged as a vibrant life companion that propels the very fabric of social development. Railway stories are imprinted in our memories, a cherished repository of moments. From nostalgic journeys back to our home towns, to the endearing nicknames like “Yellow Head” and “MLR” that have become fond recollections, they bring out a profound sense of connection. Over the years, the melodic station announcements, the iconic font (“MTR Sung”), and the captivating mosaic station architecture have been our unwavering companions, accompanying many of us in Hong Kong on countless passion-filled journeys.
Since the opening of the Kowloon-Canton Railway (British Section) in 1910, Hong Kong’s railway development has spanned over a century on a journey towards new milestones, station by station. In 1979, the Mass Transit Railway passenger service was launched and in 2007, operations of the MTR Corporation (MTR) and the Kowloon-Canton Railway Corporation (KCRC) were officially merged. The rail network has since been expanded with more rail lines and stations built and opened, covering all 18 districts of Hong Kong. The railway network stretches across the city, connecting to the airport, facilitating travel to and from the mainland, and even expanding the Hong Kong railway brand overseas. It propels the progress of the city, linking every station and every journey to our daily lives.
“Station Rail Voyage” invites you to immerse yourself in and savour railway stories, as we explore the workings behind trains and unravel the mysteries within. Join us in this all-in-one, time-travel adventure to rediscover the railway services that have been accompanying you all along, and unfold the exciting chapters that await in the future.
